UAE visa amnesty extension

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has announced an extension of the UAE visa amnesty program, giving overstayers until December 31, 2024, to regularise their residency status. The amnesty, which began on September 1 and was initially set to end on October 31, has already helped thousands of residents clear overdue fines and rectify their visa status.

This extension aligns with the UAE’s 53rd Union Day celebrations and demonstrates the country’s dedication to humanitarian principles. Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, highlighted the UAE’s response to requests from those who need more time to settle their status, either by securing an employment contract or preparing to leave the country without incurring fines. “This is the last opportunity for violators to rectify their status,” he emphasised, underscoring the UAE’s compassionate approach in offering leniency while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Since 2007, the UAE has launched several amnesty programs to help residents resolve visa-related issues without penalties. The previous amnesty in 2018 saw significant turnout, leading the government to extend the program by two additional months. Similarly, this year’s amnesty has witnessed high participation, particularly in the days approaching the initial deadline.

Steps for Overstayers to Benefit from the Extension

– Where to Apply: Overstayers can submit applications at any ICP centre across the UAE through authorised typing centres or online channels.
Deadline: Ensure all applications are completed by December 31, 2024.

With the growing number of applicants taking advantage of this extension, Al Khaili reiterated that overstayers will face renewed fines and possible bans after the deadline. The ICP will also intensify inspection campaigns to uphold regulatory standards.

This extended amnesty period is a final opportunity for those out of status to regularise their situation in the UAE. Take advantage of this amnesty before fines and restrictions are reinstated, ensuring a smooth transition into compliance with UAE residency regulations.
