The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has announced an extension of the UAE visa amnesty program, allowing overstayers until December 31, 2024, to regularise their residency status. The amnesty, which began on September 1 and was initially set to conclude on October 31, has already helped thousands of residents clear overdue fines and adjust their visa standing.
This extension aligns with the UAE’s 53rd Union Day celebrations and demonstrates the country’s commitment to humanitarian values.
Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, highlighted the UAE’s responsiveness to requests from those needing more time to settle their status, either by obtaining an employment contract or preparing to exit the country without incurring fines. “This is the last opportunity for violators to rectify their status,” he emphasized, underscoring the UAE’s compassionate approach to offering leniency while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Since 2007, the UAE has launched multiple amnesty programs to assist residents in resolving visa-related issues without penalties. The most recent amnesty in 2018 saw a significant turnout, leading the government to extend the program by two additional months. Similarly, this year’s amnesty has seen high participation, especially in the days leading up to the initial deadline.
Steps for Overstayers to Benefit from the Extension
- Where to Apply: Overstayers can submit applications at any ICP center across the UAE through approved typing centers or online channels.
- Deadline: Ensure all applications are completed by December 31, 2024.
With the growing number of applicants benefiting from this extension, Al Khaili reiterated that overstayers will face renewed fines and potential bans after the deadline. The ICP will also intensify inspection campaigns to maintain regulatory standards.
This extended amnesty period is a final opportunity for those out of status to regularise their situation in the UAE. For those affected, take advantage of this amnesty before fines and restrictions are reinstated, ensuring a smooth transition into compliance with UAE residency regulations.
